Ice Kacang Fundraising Event for MaSA

Hey everyone! Are you enjoying the wonderful summer weather that Michigan has finally grace us with? It certainly has been a wonderful treat for many of us in this small college town after experiencing those dreary winter months. Gone are the snow and gloomy clouds, and hello sunshine and flowers!

As a welcome into the summer, MaSA has decided to organize a fundraising event on campus to sell Ice Kacang! For many Malaysians, this is the treat during those hot, humid days back home. So for the students that are staying back for the summer, this is your chance to have a taste of home! Also, we hope that people from other cultures will try it out too!

For those who are unfamiliar with Ice Kacang, it is a simple dessert that is made of shaved ice with red beans, plus a variety of other ingredients such as sweet corn, grass jelly, etc. The dessert comes in bright colours and you can customize it to dressings of your choice.

You can enjoy this cool, delicious and refreshing dessert while contributing to our society’s fundraising. All proceeds from this event will be used to help us create future events that we can bring and share with you!

Come find us on 18-19th June 2014, from 11am-4pm @ WMU flagpoles. We can’t wait to see you and until then, enjoy the beautiful weather!

Midwest Games 2014

We are proud to officially announce that the Malaysian Student Association at Indiana University Bloomington will be the host of the annual Malaysia Midwest Games 2014 in collaboration with Education Malaysia Chicago. The event is scheduled to take place from May 23 to May 25 2014. We would like to extend an invitation to Malaysian students from all around the USA and Canada to participate in this event.

This year we are bringing the widely anticipated event for the first time to Bloomington, the home of Indiana University. Bloomington provides residents and visitors with a wide variety of experiences to enjoy. It is our pleasure to introduce you to Bloomington, a tight-knit community, but one with diverse and rich cultures due to the international appeal of Indiana University.

Students should be able to participate in 17 sporting events this year. We are also going to organize a career fair, in which top recruiters from Malaysia and the US will attend in an effort to expose students with career opportunities prior to and after graduation. On the final night, participants are cordially invited to the Midwest Dinner to cap off the fun-filled weekend.

As you may know, this is an annual, large-scale event. That being said, we humbly seek to invite your organization to collaborate with us in one, or more, of the following capacities:

1.     Volunteer
Students are invited to sign up as a volunteer for this event. Volunteers are entitled to receive benefits and rewards, both of which are going to be announced in a later email. Should you or your organization members are interested to volunteer, please sign up via email to the Head of Logistic Committee, Chiang Tieng, atchiatan@indiana.edu

2.    Performance
We invite your association to showcase your creativity and perform during the Midwest Night before the invited dignitaries and other attendees. There are three performance slots available on a first-come first-serve basis. Kindly confirm your participation by March 31 2014 via email to the Head of Event Management Committee, Hooi Yik Chiau, at hchiau@indiana.edu

3.    Referees
As we have mentioned earlier, there will be 17 games featured at this tournament. We ask your association to nominate three students to be referees byApril 15 2014 via email to the Head of Sports Committee, Yasser Haidir at mhaidir@indiana.edu. Volunteers are also entitled to receive benefits and rewards.

As the host of the event this year, we are thrilled to have you in Bloomington in May. We are going to send more information to your organization along the way, as they are readily available. We reserve the rights to alter some information as we see fit. Should you need further clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact the Project Secretary, Aimi Adibah Mohd Razif, at aimimohd@indiana.edu.

Yours sincerely,

Muhammad Shahir Muttaqin Mohd Fauzi
